Shared Parental Leave
On 5 April 2015, a new system of statutory parental rights will be introduced which will effectively allow parents to share leave and pay following the birth or adoption of a child. Employed parents who take this new shared parental leave (SPL) will be eligible for a new statutory payment and shared parental pay (ShPP). Self-employed parents will not be entitled to ShPP, but if they satisfy certain earnings criteria, their employed partner may be entitled.
