Court Fees set to rise yet again?

In the latest round of proposals published by the Ministry of Justice, a consultation is now in place to increase Court fees yet again. Amongst other increases and variations to the current fee system, the cap on money claims has the potential to rise from an already increased £10,000 to an even less palatable £20,000.

Whilst this latest (proposed) round of increases has the potential to generate an estimated £48 million of income, it has yet to be seen what effect these fee increases are having on the number of claims being issued through the Courts. It goes without saying that the increase is likely to put off many proposed Claimants so the question is whether the additional income generated by the increases justifies the potential bar to justice faced by those unable to afford to issue genuine claims? The consultation is likely to be opposed by many so watch this space for further developments…
