Increase in drug testing at work

There has been a notable rise in the number of yearly workplace drug tests taken between 2011 and 2014.

It is not permissible for employers to require employees to submit drug testing without their consent; however, clauses can be inserted in contracts of employment whereby withholding consent will constitute a gross misconduct offence. It is advisable for employers to include Substance Misuse policies in the staff handbook.
